The NB3 Foundation Announces Creation of New Fall 2011 Soccer League

SAN FELIPE PUEBLO, NM--The Notah Begay III Foundation has announced the creation of a new soccer league to begin this fall for kids ages 5-10, the NB3SL.  This league is fully sanctioned and strongly endorsed by the New Mexico Youth Soccer Association.  Following the best practices for player development of the U.S. Youth Soccer Association, the league will operate with an ‘academy style’ approach.  Instead of competing on teams, players will sign up individually and will be mixed within their age group each week and participate in small-sided games for approximately one hour.  Registration for the league also includes two practices per week with NB3 Foundation and San Felipe Soccer Club staff coaches.  Game formats per age group are:

U6:  3v3
U8:  4v4
U10:  6v6 (5v5 + GK)


All games will take place at the new state-of-the-art soccer field located at the San Felipe Pueblo, located just 10 miles north of Bernalillo, NM.  The league will play on Saturdays beginning September 10th and ending October 29th. 

The goal of the NB3SL is to provide the best possible atmosphere for kids to enjoy learning the game while emphasizing player development.  To accomplish this goal, the NB3SL integrates proven strategies from around the world to encourage long-term participation and positive youth development.

“Through my experience in youth player development both nationally and internationally, I have seen the benefits of this model both individually and collectively,” said Stephanie Gabbert, NB3 Foundation Director of Soccer and former U.S. Soccer National Staff Coach. 

“Introducing this league structure to our Native environments will have a tremendous positive impact on our youth players,” Gabbert stated.  “By emphasizing fun & enjoyment along with the competitive element, we anticipate players will want to play more and continue through their older years.  This will encourage even greater health benefits and help create positive life-long habits at a critical time in their young lives”.
