Leg pain forces WD in Ireland - Friday, May 18, 2007
ADARE, Ireland -- Intolerable pain in his right leg forced Notah Begay III to withdraw from a second event in the last three weeks after posting a 9-over-par 81 in the first round of the Irish Open on Thursday.
"Well, to be quite honest, I couldn't deal with another round in such discomfort," Notah said. "After some very postive physical therapy in London this week, I thought the pain had been reduced to tolerable levels so that I would be able to play this week."
Notah, who finished with his highest round of 2007, continued, "After nine holes, it is was apparent that the pain in my right leg was severely affecting my play. Instead of breaking down the confidence of steady play from last week, the best thing was to head back home and regroup."
Originally scheduled to play in next week's BMW PGA Championship in England, Notah will return to the U.S. and take care of his discomfort.
"I will visit some back and spine specialists in hope that we can find the cause of my pain," Notah said. "Through asking the right questions with the right people, I'm sure we can get this issue resolved. I must be patient and continue to work on the things that aren't so painful like my chipping and putting."
