Taken for a ride in Mescalero - Friday, September 07, 2007
MESCALERO, N.M. -- Notah Begay III had another good round going, then he found himself on a bumpy ride during Friday's second round at the New Mexico Open.
"The bogey train took over for a portion of my round and I just couldn't get it to stop," Notah said. "After getting to 3-under-par for the day, I made four straight bogeys."
Notah, currently in a tie for 35th place, rebounded to end his day with a pair of birdies on the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort course.
"I managed to make only two pars on the back nine and ended up with a 1-under-par 71," Notah said. "It's not the way I would have liked to have followed up on (Thursday's) performance, but the strong finish is something to build on.
"I'm making plenty of birdies to play well but just too many mistakes. That's usually the case when there's been a lack of competition, so this week will certainly give me good preparation for the Turning Stone Resort Championship and the rest of the fall schedule."
Final round play is expected to being around 11:30 am (ET) on Saturday.

As some of you may know, I have a golf course design consulting firm called NB3 Consulting. I started NB3 Consulting in 2002 because I wanted to work with Native American tribes on golf course development projects. My goal, as always, is to bring the best team possible to the table and to keep the interests of the community first. We just launched the NB3 Consulting website,
www.nb3consulting.com and I encourage you to spend some time on it if you have the chance.
