PREVIEW: European Q-school - Thursday, October 26, 2006
ROTA, Spain -- Recepcion a Espana, Sr. Begay.
Translation: "Welcome to Spain, Mr. Begay."
For the next few weeks, Notah Begay III will work his way through the European Tour's Q-school. The 4-time PGA Tour winner will begin his stint in Spain with the 1st round of the 2nd Stage of Q-school on November 1, at the Costa Ballena Club de Golf on the northwest coast of Spain.
After successfully playing through the 2nd stage, Notah would play in the next week's Final Stage of European Q-school, held at The San Roque Club, located near the tip of the Iberian peninsula - one of Europe's most secluded and exclusive golfing resorts.
"I played the 1999 WGC-American Express Championships at Valderrama in southern Spain,†Notah said. “It's the exact same area as the final stage of the European Q-school, so I will be back in familiar territory."
If Notah earns his European Tour card at the Final Stage, the Albuquerque native would embark on a new chapter in his golf career.
"Playing the European Tour would give me the opportunity to rebuild my game without all the attention of the media in the U.S.," Notah said. "I have some big goals left to achieve and the first step will begin in Europe.â"
