Good Putting Leads to 67 - Tuesday, November 14, 2006
SAN ROQUE, Spain -- In his lowest round of the European Tour Qualifying School's Final Stage, Notah Begay III shot a 5-under 67 and moved up into a tie for 4th place with two rounds to go.
"I played the best round of the week making six birdies with only one bogey," Notah said. "I managed to move up the leaderboard and put myself in great position for the final two rounds."
Notah's lone bogey on No. 8 was quickly erased with three consecutive birdies on holes Nos. 11-13.
"The key to (Tuesday's) round was my putting," Notah said. "I made a 20-foot birdie on the 5th hole, a 40-foot birdie on the 11th, an 18-foot birdie on the 12th and a 12-footer for birdie on the 13th. That stretch of three birdies in a row really picked up the momentum and enabled me to put together a great round."
The top 30 finishers, plus ties, will all earn playing privileges onto the European Tour. Notah is set to tee off at 10:35 am local time on Wednesday for his fifth round. The tournament committee has decided that due to the forecast of rain over the next two days, the final two rounds will be played on the New Course at the San Roque Club.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge of the last two rounds and know that this thing is far from over," Notah said. "I will stick to my routine and get back at it (Wednesday)."
