NB3 Challenge
Event Overview
2011 brings with it the fourth annual NB3 Foundation Challenge, on August 31st. Hosted at Turning Stone Resort’s Atunyote Golf Club, the Challenge will once again bring together stars of the PGA and LPGA TOUR to raise awareness and build support for the health and wellness of Native American youth.
In previous years, the Challenge has been played in a Skins and mixed two-person format. Some of the best players in golf have taken top honors in this friendly but fierce competition, including Camilo Villegas in the inaugural year, as well as Tiger Woods and the pairing of Hunter Mahan and Cristie Kerr.
This year, the NB3 Foundation Challenge welcomes back Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Annika Sorenstam, Cristie Kerr and Suzann Pettersen to its line up, along with LPGA TOUR star Natalie Gulbis. Tiger Woods represents one of the most successful careers in golf, while rising star Rickie Fowler, part Navajo, is looking to improve on his second place finish in the Challenge last year. Players will compete in a two-person, best-ball format.
As always, all proceeds will go directly to the Notah Begay III Foundation. More than $2.4 million has been raised in the past three years through this event. This funding has gone to support programs for Native American youth along with ambitious projects including a $750,000 soccer field and community park in the San Felipe Pueblo. Each year, the NB3 Foundation supports Soccer and Golf programs that service nearly 1,000 youth throughout the summer months.
