NB3 Challenge
Event Overview
The 2010 edition of NB3 Foundation Challenge, to be hosted by the Atunyote Golf Club at Turning Stone Resort and Casino, will once again bring out the best golfers in the world to compete and help build awareness and funds for the improved health and wellness of Native American youth.
In both 2008 and 2009, the NB3 Foundation Challenge was played in a skins game format. Camilo Villegas won the first-ever event in 2008, defeating Notah, Stewart Cink, Vijay Singh and Mike Weir. In 2009, Camilo Villegas failed to defend his title, as Notah’s former teammate at Stanford and the world’s top-ranked golfer, Tiger Woods, captured the title.
New for 2010, the NB3 Foundation Challenge will feature an expanded field made up of a who’s who from the men’s and women’s world of golf. Players will compete in a mixed team, best ball format. Among the men playing in this year’s tournament are Challenge alums Notah, Vijay Singh, and Camilo Villegas, as well as first-time participants Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan and Anthony Kim. Teaming with these six will be two of the legendary figures in women’s golf, Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam, plus Cristie Kerr, Suzann Pettersen, Morgan Pressel and Anna Rawson.
Each year, the big winners of the NB3 Challenge are the Notah Begay III Foundation and the Native American youth that benefit from its work and its programs. The 2009 NB3 Challenge raised more than $1 million in support of the foundation’s mission. Proceeds from the 2009 event helped Notah and the Foundation make its first major impact in Indian Country when it awarded a $500,000 grant to San Felipe Pueblo to assist the tribe in building a soccer field and park – the first recreational facility in its history. In addition, the NB3 Foundation Challenge event continues to support the NB3 Soccer and Golf programs which will service close to 1,000 youth before the end of the summer months.
