Director of Sports and Health Programs appointed to the American Diabetes Association Sub-committee for Native American Initiatives

Kelli Wilson (Kickapoo/Seminole/Creek), Registered Dietitian and Director of Sports and Health Programs for the Notah Begay III Foundation, has been appointed to the American Diabetes Association’s Native American Initiatives team, also called Awakening the Spirit. The team consists of 11 health professionals throughout the Nation working closely in the area of diabetes treatment and prevention among Native communities. The mission of the sub-committee is to carry a message of hope to Native people that diabetes is preventable and treatable with the vision of a future free of diabetes for Native people.

The sub-committee will provide the ADA with direction related to issues affecting Native Americans living with diabetes, promote participation with advocacy activities addressing the needs of Native Americans living with diabetes, assess program effectiveness and identify strategies required to increase effectiveness, evaluate materials produced by the National Diabetes Education Program, provide feedback and recommendations on partnership opportunities and other guidance on ensuring education materials and literature are culturally competent.
